This West Tampa Cuban Sandwich recipe is made the way that I have enjoyed most of the Cuban sandwiches I have eaten for over 40 years... You just can't go wrong with this version of the popular sandwich.
Ingredients
8-9 inch piece of Cuban Bread
4 oz Glazed Ham, thinly sliced
2 oz Mojo Roasted Pork, thinly sliced
1 oz Genoa Salami , thinly sliced
1 oz Swiss Cheese
3-4 Pickle chips (optional)
1 tbs Yellow Mustard
1 tbs Mayonnaise
3-4 Tomato slices, thinly sliced
Lettuce, thinly sliced
Soft Butter
Instructions
Mise en place
Slice lettuce, tomatoes and meats, if necessary.
Assemble sandwich
Cut Cuban bread in half lengthwise and spread mayo & mustard on top half of bread.
Layer sliced meats and cheese in the following order: ham, pork, salami, and then cheese.
Place pickle chips evenly on top.
Add lettuce and tomatoes, and place top half of bread on top.
Press
Lightly butter both top and bottom of sandwich. Heat sandwich in press until crisp.
Cut diagonally from corner to corner.
Serve.
Notes
Sometimes called "Key West Mix"
Inspired by all the Cubans I have eaten in my neighborhood throughout the years.
