A Medianoche Sandwich consists of ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, dill pickles and mustard. It is a close cousin to the Cuban sandwich, the main difference being that a Medianoche is made on soft, sweet egg dough bread similar to Challah rather than on crustier Cuban bread. Like the Cuban sandwich, the Medianoche is typically warmed in a press before eating.
Ingredients
  • ⅛ lb Sweet Ham
  • ⅛ lb Roast Pork
  • 2-3 slices of Swiss Cheese (preferably thin slices)
  • 3-4 Pickle chips
  • Mustard
  • Mayonnaise (not traditional, but I like it on this sandwich)
  • Medianoche Bread (Sweet Yellow Egg Bread)
Instructions
  1. Cut Medianoche bread in half lengthwise.
  2. Layer sliced meats and cheese in the following order: ham, pork, and then Swiss cheese.
  3. Place pickle chips evenly on top.
  4. Spread mustard generously on top half of bread and mayo (optional).
  5. Lightly butter both top and bottom of sandwich. Heat sandwich in sandwich press until crisp.
  6. Cut diagonally from corner to corner.
  7. Serve!
Notes
If you don't have access to a bakery that sells Medianoche bread, an alternative is the Jewish Challah egg bread.
