Easy Homemade Hummus

This Easy Homemade Hummus recipe can be made in less than 15 minutes, tastes delicious and is very nutritious. The earliest known recipes for a dish similar to hummus bi tahina are recorded in cookbooks written in Cairo in the 13th century and it is becoming a very popular staple in American restaurants and kitchens today.
Ingredients
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans Chickpeas (Garbanzo Beans), drained
  • ⅓ cup Tahini, stirred well
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 5 tbs Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed
  • ¼ cup Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
  • ¼ cup Water
  • 1½ tsp Kosher Salt
  • ⅛ tsp Cumin, optional
Instructions
Mise en place
  1. Peel and mince garlic.
  2. Drain chick peas.
  3. Squeeze and portion lemon juice.
  4. Portion tahini, olive oil, water, salt and cumin.
Put it together
  1. Place the drained chickpeas, garlic and kosher salt the food processor. Process for 30 seconds.
  2. Stop, scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  3. Add tahini and process for another 15 seconds.
  4. Add lemon juice, ¼ cup water and process for 20 seconds.
  5. Stop, scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  6. With the processor running, drizzle in olive oil and process for another 20 seconds or until smooth.
Serve
  1. Transfer the hummus to a bowl and serve with your favorite flatbread or pita chips.
Notes
For best results... Cover and refrigerate overnight so that flavors are allowed to come together fully.

Can be served with garnishes like: Roasted red peppers, chopped tomato, cucumber, coriander, parsley, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, whole chickpeas, olive oil, hard-boiled eggs, paprika, cumin, Mediterranean sumac, ful, olives, pickles or pine nuts.
